Nurse Salary

It’s no secret that nurses get paid pretty well.  In fact, if you work as a registered nurse (RN), you are going to be making well above the living wage, on top of enjoying a great schedule and excellent benefits!  But how much do nurses make exactly?  Well, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the 2010 median salary for registered nurse was $31 an hour, or nearly $65,000 per year!  I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound too bad!  Of course the pay is going to vary widely, and is contingent on a bunch of factors like where you live, years of experience, and how much time you want to spend working, so keep that in mind when you’re wondering exactly how much you might make.


Before you can officially begin working as a nurse you will need to earn a passing score on the NCLEX-RN (Registered Nurse) or NCLEX-PN (Practical Nurse).  nclexThe NCLEX is a computer-based assessment for licensing, which grants a person the right to work as a nurse in the state where they fulfilled their obligations.

NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is an examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States. There are two types, the NCLEX-RN and the NCLEX-PN. After graduation from a school of nursing, one takes the NCLEX exam to receive his or her nursing license. A nursing license gives an individual the permission to practice nursing, granted by the state where he or she met the requirements.  The Pearson company currently administers the NCLEX exam, and they have multiple testing locations throughout the country.  You will want to prepare as much as possible prior to taking the NCLEX exam, and there are numerous study guides that can help you achieve a passing score.

Travel Nursing

Just the name sounds awesome, right?  Travel Nurse.  Say it again.  Travel Nurse.  Sounds like something you could get used to?  Well, luckily for you there is an exciting fast-paced career available to nurses, and it’s called Travel Nursing.  If yoTravel Nurseu love being in new places, meeting lots of new people, and getting paid an excellent salary, then working as a Travel Nurse may be just the career for you!  Obviously if you’re totally settled down with a family and kids, you may not want to be on the road for extended periods of time, or maybe you do?  Who knows.  But the point is, if you do like these things, then you definitely want to look into working as a travel nurse.  It can be an excellent career opportunity for young professionals who are just starting out, and are eager to get out there and explore the United States.  Most jobs will work around your requests, so if you live in sunny San Diego and don’t want to do a six week stretch in North Dakota in the middle of January, then your probably won’t have to…unless that’s your thing or something.    The point is, if you’re a nurse there are a ton of awesome options out there for you, and a bunch of opportunities that can match your passions and where you happen to be in life.
